Personal Philosophy

Personal Philosophy

The massive evidence that one has is a clear indicator that there is always an active will toward health and an impulse towards actualization and growth (Buck, Baldwin & Schwartz, 2005). A person has a belief system that determines what he thinks is possible which in turn influences the results they allow or create in life. Healthcare as a field is quite personal and only a person understands what it means to them. The understanding is based on worldview, beliefs, and values which can change over time. It is the aim of this paper to offer my personal worldview, establish a nursing theory that aligns with my approach to patient care, explain how my worldview can help in resolving a current practice issue and explain how the worldview and nursing theory can help in developing future practice.

When it comes to patient care, it is my philosophy to provide empathetic, competent, optimal, compassionate and holistic care to the best of my ability. The philosophy is derived from the beliefs and values instilled when I was a child. These beliefs and values are supplemented by compassion, respect, and trustworthiness. It is what created the interest in the nursing profession and it drives my endeavors to offer care to my community, family, and patients. I believe that to ensure that a philosophy works, one has to continue educating themselves on issues dealing with patient care. One has to undertake extensive research which will provide a wealth of information that can be transposed to knowledge. This greatly enhances one’s skills and allow them to offer optimal and quality care (Buck, Baldwin & Schwartz, 2005).
