There are many ways in which I will alter my approach to professional development in a health care organization, based on what I have learned in this course. I will be more cognizant of the potential for bias in communication, and will apply that awareness to ensure that any message communicated is intended to be understood by all team members.

It is easy to take for granted the variety of perspectives that can add value to a health care organization. Appealing to the unique perspective of each individual and allowing them equal opportunity to contribute are essential steps toward fostering a healthy work environment. Clearly communicating with all team members is an important part of ensuring that they are able to make valuable contributions.

My dissertation research will be influenced by the importance of clear communication, especially as it relates to professional development. The structure of an effective communication system within a health care organization can influence that organization’s ability to develop its employees. An effective communication system should not only facilitate clear communication between employees and managers, but also allow for feedback from those employees.

I believe that better understanding the role of effective communication in professional development can help us understand how we can improve professional development programs in health care organizations, especially as technology continues to evolve at a rapid pace.
