Is a transformation leader the best style of leader for every organizational culture?

Why or why not? How does a health care organization determine whether a transformational leadership style aligns with its culture?

answer

In my opinion, a transformation leader is not the best style of leader for every organizational culture. Some cultures in health care are still very much hierarchical, in which the leader is seen as the ultimate expert and there is little to no attempt made to encourage employees to give input or take initiative. In my experience, these cultures are in need of an authoritative leadership style—and there may be some organizations where this style is still seen as the most effective way to lead. A transformational leader would likely try to shake up these organizations too much, which could be detrimental.

In an organization that has more of an egalitarian culture, I believe a transformational leadership style would be ideal. Because this type of culture supports teamwork and employee involvement, it would be easier for a transformational leader to make changes and get everyone on board with their new goals and direction.

When I think about whether a transformational leadership style aligns with an organization’s culture, I think about what kind of changes the organization would like to make and how comfortable they are with making them. If they want to maintain their status quo, a hierarchical leadership style may work best for them. If they are looking for major changes but have members at all levels who might be resistant, a charismatic leadership style may work
